Cheer FAQ's
When will I know what squad my child is on? Cheer squad placement organization meetings are held in late July. Cheer Coaches receive their rosters in early August. You will be notified by your Cheer Coach no later than August 17. If you have not heard from your Cheer Coach by August 17 please contact us.
I have a child playing football, can my cheerleader cheer for the player's team? Flag football teams do not have cheeleading squads. We can not guarantee placement on any team due to football weigh-in at Jamboree. However, our first priority is to place siblings on the same team.
I have more than one child cheering. Can they be placed on the same squad? Yes, we can grant a request to place siblings on the same cheerleading squad as well as friends. Please be sure to indicate your request on the sign-up form.
What is cheer camp? When and where is it held? Cheer camp is held in the summer and gives the cheerleaders an opportunity to meet the other girls on the squad, learn cheers and proper stretching and techniques. Dates,times, and locations will be advised.
What should the cheerleaders wear to cheer camp? What else will they need? Cheerleaders should wear comfortable shorts, t-shirts and athletic shoes. They should also bring water and a small snack.
The Optimist provides uniforms for the cheerleaders, what other items do I need to purchase? Cheerleaders will need the following: a white long sleeved turtleneck, black bloomers or boy-shorts under the cheer skirt and good athletic shoes. We do not require any specific type or color of athletic shoe.
What other items can squads purchase to add to the squads's uniform? Prior to purchasing any squad items other than those indicated here or in the Cheer Constitution, please contact us for club approval.
When does practice start? Practice starts after August 11th. Your cheer coach will contact you. If you do not hear from them by August 8th, Please contact us.
Where are practices held? Your cheer coach will notify you as to practice location and times.
What is Jamboree and when will pictures be taken? The Jamboree is held prior to the start of the season. Football teams play short offensive and defensive scrimmages and the cheerleaders will perform cheers. Team and individual pictures are also taken at Jamboree.
Where are games played? Games are played on Saturday starting at 8:30am, and the last game starting at 2:30pm. Most games are played at the Optimist Youth Sports complex on Hill Road in Boise. Many teams will travel on Saturday to play one of the outside programs. (Nampa, Kuna, Emmett, Horsehoe Bend, Mountain Home, McCall, Wood River, and Marsing). We encourage our cheer squads to travel to support the team, however, it is not required. The Cheer Coach must be present at away games to have the cheerleaders cheer.
